Earlier this year, we reported on home décor trends design experts said were ready to be packed away. Now, just in time for a brand new year, we present the latest styles and looks for your home sweet home.
Here are five design trends to watch for in 2021:
Plants, plants, plants: As the pandemic took its toll on our mental well-being, many of us took to indoor plants and flowers – both faux and real – as a way to brighten up our mood and the spaces we were using more and more. The trend will continue in 2021. (Here are some of the easiest-to-care for indoor plants.)
Multi-purpose: With work (and often school) from home, living rooms have become makeshift offices and kitchens are now often classrooms. As pandemic life continues, it’s time to smarten up those spaces. (Here are some suggestions.)
Bold and bright colors: While neutral walls never go out of style, making a statement by choosing a bold red, yellow or even hot pink sofa, chair, rug or throw is a great way to boost the energy and fun in your living space.
Light woods: Dark chocolate and ebony wood floors were big in the 1990s and 2000s but this decade finds its inspiration from Scandinavia and Japan, with white, light, soft-hued and even gray-toned oak.
Inside, out: Being at home doesn’t have to mean staying indoors. 2021 will see making balconies and patios more comfortable for work, with chairs, tables, rugs and plants to mimic our indoors places. (You might want to wait until late spring though!)

Did you know? Make it gold
Where chrome and brushed nickel dominated door handles and other accents in recent years, gold and brass are back from the 70s. Even better, mix it up!
I do not follow any trends for my living space it is what makes me happy and comfy.
My husband is a horticulturalist, so “Plants, Plants, Plants” are always in style at our house.
I am all about the plants and he bold bright colors. I love salmon, pink, and turquoise all mixed in with the tan wood floor. I still am not a fan of gold or brass though. I like the brushed nickel!
I have always loved decorating with plants and never got rid of my brass or gold-combine all
It is all about comfort and everything in its place that makes my home decor work for me.
I’m not into trends. I know what I like and I stick with that no matter what is “in”.
I have always had plants in my home. Even though experts don’t agree, I think that plants clean the air.
There are several terrific ideas here. One idea even inspires repurposing mater8ials to create a desk or workspace table. plants are good; I started cultivating a snake plant, because I read this plant is best for cleaning the air so it is healthier and good to look at with varied colors of green very interesting and it grows fast also it doesn’t need a gardener to keep it alive very little care and it grow on it’s own without experience house plant care.
i will be planting my flowers and plants that will keep coming up every year. been slowly doing this for 2 years. saves time and money and work.
will be spending more time on the deck with a new roof and a nice table and chairs that we can work from our computers on , along with reading. making things more comfortable in my older age.
The trend I am inspired by is making outdoor venues more comfortable.
my style is eclectic comfortable, see no need to change!
I am a traditionalist, and old. Retro is my style. It is fun, because it brings back very fond memories of old! Thanks
I love indoor plants especially Orchids. I have 6 of them and 2 of them just bloomed again. They are so beautiful and add a great accent to my home decor.
In actuality, I NEVER follow anything that is ‘trendy’ at all (just no interest – most times it is either too useless or just (ugh) something that is not practical/pleasing at all).
I do whatever I know is right for my home and life.
I also stick tightly to my personal budget, so that is a BIG consideration for the vast majority of people as well (we can’t afford the expense of what these designers are pushing).
Light colors make me more happy and relaxed.
I love plants but they do not do well in my house because I have hundreds of trees around the house which keeps the house dark. The trees are over 100 years old and they keep the house cool in the summer so we don’t have to use the air until it hits 90 most days unless it is humid. I love being surrounded by family items weather it be a painting or furniture. It just makes me grin.
I like dark woods or medium woods. I do not like light woods. I love to be surrounded by history so I have a lot of family furniture around the house.
I still collect vintage items for my house. I sleep in a double bed that is over 100 years old (not the mattress) and I use my grandmothers Tupperware, Pyrex, glass bake etc. in my kitchen. I love reusing items that were built to last. My washer and dryer if from the early 80s. They were quality made and meant to last. The ones now are only made to last a few years sadly.
How does this work because I have been enrolled in SV but I haven’t ever won anything or gotten surveys to collect points. I guess I just don’t know how this works. Could someone fill me in. Thank you in advance for your help with this matter
